April 2017 – Time Square casino in Menlyn is officially open.
February 2017 – The R4 billion Time Square Casino and Hotel in Menlyn Maine is fully on track and is due to open in April 2017. Time Square casino will be Africa’s second largest casino, after the GrandWest Casino in Cape Town… and the most technologically advanced casino in South Africa.
After the Competition Commission blocked the merger between Sun International and casino operator Peermont in December 2015, the Sun International casino called Times Square on Menlyn Maine should now be able to continue without any hurdles. Sun International moved to acquire Peermont for R9.43 billion last year after Peermont objected to the proposed relocation of its Morula licence from Mabopane to Menlyn in Tshwane.
The acquisition would have given Sun International access to a portfolio of gaming and hospitality businesses in South Africa and Botswana, 9 casino resorts, including the flagship Emperors Palace casino resort, 3 stand-alone hotels and 1 stand-alone casino. But the commission blocked the transaction arguing that it would result in increased concentration levels in an already highly concentrated industry. Chief executive Graeme Stephens said they are happy that they can open Menlyn Maine a lot quicker, and that it would be open next year. They are happy with the outcome.
Sun International is planning on building a 5 Star Hotel to cater to the discerning clientele coming to visit Menlyn Maine. Strategically located in the heart of Menlyn Maine’s shopping, dining and entertainment quarters, these hotels will be the gateway to explore Menlyn Maine’s green city at your convenience. Accessibility to the rest of the Capital City has been made easy, with all Tshwane’s transit systems, the Rapid Buss Transit (BRT), Gautrain Busses and Council bus stops, being within walking distance. The entire city is literally at your doorstep.
Time Square Pretoria is also already destined to become Sun International’s flagship property, the crème de la crème for the company. The Casino and Hotel in Pretoria East will create an estimated 10 000 jobs during the construction of the structure, with another 2 200 after completion.

Central Square is a true multi use development, incorporating 25 000m2 of retail shopping space, 12 500m2 of Commercial Office Space, a 10 000m2 Hotel, and a 4 500m2 Virgin Active Classic Health club.
