More than 200 shacks from the Plastic View informal settlement were destroyed in a fire in July 2016. Five people died in the blaze, believed to have been started by an unattended candle.
A well known steel producing company and other construction companies have recently donated building material for some of the households. They can now start rebuilding their homes.
The Plastic View informal settlement is considered a problem for most of the neighbouring residents who now ask why these homes are being rebuilt?
The majority of residents believe that government should move these people to a safe location and provide them with adequate housing.
